Baptism
At The Gathering we practice Baptism as one of the ordinances of the Body of Christ. Christ Himself was baptized by John to provide for us an example of submission and obedience. Baptism is an act of obedience for the Christian who desires to follow the pattern of The Great Commission. In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus gave instruction to His disciples to make disciples and to baptize them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Therefore, when you become a believer and trust Jesus as your Savior and Lord, you then take the step of obedience to be baptized. Paul teaches us in Romans 6 that our baptism is an identification with the death burial and resurrection of Jesus. For that and other reasons, we practice what I like to call “bury you” baptism. We immerse you under the water and bring you from that “burial”.
